About Us

Lives With Less Plastic (LWLP) was founded in 2018 to ban single use plastic bags and straws in Cochrane Alberta. However in 2019, LWLP pivoted to education and community initiatives surrounding sustainability and plastics! Now our goal is to not only educate our community but empower and inspire others to create environmental change in community's all around Canada and the world.

Hi! My name is Jade Janzen and I founded Lives With Less Plastic in 2018 to create environmental action in my community! I have grown up in the environment; hiking, cross country skiing, camping and backpacking since a very young age. I have grown a passion for saving the thing that I love so much, nature!  A fun fact about me is my first word was recyling! One of my favourite things is educating younger students so they can take their passion and make change without barriers through the LWLP Eco Squad. In my free time I play sports, go to the gym, volunteer in my community as well as work as a lifeguard and swim instructor. I am in my first year of Marine Biology at University of Victoria. Running LWLP is one of my greatest passions and it brings me joy to be working to save the world everyday! I am from on Treaty 7 land and Metis Region 3 but go to school on the territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples.

Hey! My name is Zoe Cinnamon and I have been a member of Lives With Less Plastic since 2020! I love the outdoors and am going to the University of Alberta for Earth and Atmospheric science! I am very passionate about the atmosphere and geology and am big into the fight against climate change but any way to help the environment is something I can get behind! My goal is to work in the oil and gas industry to help make it more sustainable. Lives With Less Plastic is an amazing organization and I love being part of the effort to reduce single-use plastics and improve the world we live in. When I'm not advocating for the environment I spend most of my time as a competitive and varsity curler, practicing and competing around Canada representing the U of A. I also enjoy rock climbing, taking care of my many plants and baking the occasional cookie! I'm so glad I get to help make a positive change in this world with Lives With Less Plastic!!! I live on Treaty 6 land and Metis Region 4.

Hello! My name is Alexandria Veckenstedt and I have been a member of Lives With Less Plastic since 2020! Growing up I was always a huge fan of the outdoors and over the years this built into a desire to protect our environment. I believe climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing our generation and I hope that I can be a small part of the solution. I am currently attending the University of Calgary - Go Dino's! - where I'm studying mechanical and biomedical engineering. In my spare time I love to do anything athletic, especially basketball which I've played competitively throughout my life. I also enjoy baseball, snowboarding and am a huge lover of movies and music. I live on Treaty 7 land and Metis Region 3.

Hi! My name is Faith O'Brien and I have been a member of Lives With Less Plastic since 2021! I am a first year community design student at Dalhousie University. I am learning about how we can create more sustainable, accessible cities. Lives With Less Plastic has made me more eco-conscious and inspired me to reduce my environmental footprint. Fun fact: my favourite movie is Finding Nemo and I have a reusable straw collection. I live on Treaty 7 land, Métis Region 3, and the ancestral, un ceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people.
